Are you ready to learn more about HON’s sturdy line of lateral filing cabinets? If you recall, a couple months ago we covered the differences between the 600, 700, and 800 Series lateral files. Now, we’re going to cover the more economical HON 500 Series.
First off, the 500 Series is regarded as the less-expensive younger sibling of the other three. It is built out of the same solid steel, and even matches them in terms of height and depth, but comes in a couple less options. As you may remember, the 6, 7, and 800 Series all come in 30”, 36” and 42” wide versions, and 2, 3, 4, and 5 drawer heights. The 500 breaks away from them with only 30” and 36” widths, and only 2, 4, and 5 drawer heights. The five drawer height only comes in the 36” width. To make it easier to visualize, here are the five versions available in the 500 Series:

| 2 Drawer 30” and 36” Wide |
4 Drawer 30” and 36” Wide |
5 Drawer 36” Wide |
The 500 Series also features a solid ball-bearing suspension system on its drawers, making it ideal for home or casual office use. Two adjustable hangrails in each drawer or roll-out shelf allow for easy side-to-side filing. As a safety feature to prevent tipping, a mechanical interlock prevents more than one drawer being opened at a time. The HON “One Key” interchangeable core removable locks on each drawer provid an added level of security, and the locks between cabinets can be keyed alike.
We hope this gives you a more solid understanding of the differences between the HON’s four main lateral file series. If you have any questions or would like to request a quote for multiple filing cabinets, please call us at 888-363-8350.
