What are the differences between HON Lateral File Cabinets?

If you’re like me, the first time you looked at the various types of lateral file cabinets that HON offers, you felt completely lost. You saw 500s, 600s, 700s, and 800s, and all of them seemed to be so similar. What’s the difference?

First of all, you have to split them into two categories. The 500 Series is completely different from the 600s, 700s, and 800s.

500 Series vs. 600, 700, and 800 Series

500 Series
The 500s come in only two widths; 30” and 36”. They are built for use in small and home offices that don't have heavy filing demands and feature simple ball-bearing slide suspension on the drawers with a monochromatic drawer pull.

600, 700, and 800 Series
These series all come in three widths; 30”, 36” and 42”. They come with a much higher quality three-part, telescoping, steel ball-bearing suspension, which will last longer and provide smoother, quieter drawers. They also feature nicer drawer pulls, with a different drawer pull on each series (see comparison below).

600 Series vs. 700 Series vs. 800 Series

It’s all in the drawer pulls! The only difference between these three series is which drawer pull you’d like to have on your lateral file. Here are pictures of the various drawer pulls:

600 Series - Bright anodized aluminum recess drawer pull

700 Series - Full-face integral drawer pull

800 Series - Full-width radius designer style pull

To help you keep track of all these differences, here’s a handy chart:
