Hey there,

I am not a big guy.  When I graduated High School I was a towering 5’7” and weighed in at 145 pounds.  Now, at age 51, though gravity is taking its toll, I still claim the same height.  My weight class on the other hand, has grown from Welterweight to Middleweight.  Now, I have never had to stoop walking thru a door.  Nor have I had much trouble finding clothes to fit me or ever worried if a chair I was about to sit in, would hold me or not.  But, I’ve known plenty of folks who have.

Are you a Big & Tall person?  Maybe you work with someone who is.  In either case, you know the challenge of finding an office, classroom or guest seating, that fits those who are bigger and taller than the average guy or gal.  Speaking of average, according to 2010 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these are the measurements of the average American man:

Height: 5 feet 9 inches
Weight: 195.5 pounds
Waist circumference: 39.7 inches.

So, based on this information, if you’re taller than 6’ and have a waist size of 40” or more, in my book you are Big and Tall.  Just like we average working men and women, you also work hard and you need a chair that can keep up.  Next time you go looking for the perfect seat, these are the things that should set yours apart from the others.

Big and Tall Chairs:

  • Warranted for users from 400 to 500 lbs
  • Thicker wooded seat pan
  • Heavy Duty base and casters
  • Heavy Duty pneumatic cylinder
  • Reinforced steel frame to support larger users
  • Wide base and seat platform to provide stability

Now, you may think your B&T chair will stick out from the rest of the office, but you would be wrong.  Most are made with the same considerations that make any office chair attractive and comfortable.  Here’s what I mean.  This chair looks like any other and it's outfitted with many of the same comforts like contoured mesh seat and back, adjustable arms, lumbar support and a knee-tilt mechanism.  What you don't see is the reinforced frame rated to support users up to 450lbs.

Here is a sweet chair by OFM that would look sharp behind any executives desk.  This chair offers long-lasting support with the 5" thick, extra-wide seat cushion, 1" thick leatherette-padded armrests, and built-in lumbar support, swivel/tilt mechanism with tilt lock and tilt tension control. Enjoy stable mobility with the 28" 5-star base. A weight capacity up to 500 lbs.

There are even guest chairs and stacking chairs available for B&T guests in your office or school.  Here is the "Uber" from Safco, a guest chair designed for multi-shift, intensive-use environments, especially for the big and tall person. Weight capacity is 500 lb. An extra-wide and deep seat with thick cushioned foam provides long-term comfort. Chair is rated for 24/7 use and upholstered with 100 percent vinyl.  Sled-base frame has built-in arm pads and is made of 16-gauge reinforced steel.

If you need and office chair, you're in the right place.  No matter your size we can help you find the perfect fit, finish and function!
